Senator Leila de Lima on Sunday promised to help give justice to the family of a five year-old girl who was shot by a gunman reportedly after her grandfather.
The girl was Danica Mae Garcia, a kindergarten pupil and the 26th fatality in her city in the current administration’s war on drugs.
De Lima arrived at the family’s home in Dagupan City at around 5 p.m on Sunday and stayed for about ten minutes to get the details of the shooting, according to the victim’s grandmother, Gemma Garcia.
Policemen accompanied the senator.
Maximo, Danica’s grandfather was the target of the gunmen. He attained wounds in the stomach and is being treated in a hospital guarded by policemen.
A witness identified the shooter as Bryan Macaayao. Police claimed that Macaayao was the first suspect identified in their 26 cases of shooting related to the drug war.
Police have no suspects for the other cases, including the July 19 killing of graduating student Rowena Tiamson, 22, whose remains were found tied with a piece of cardboard identifying her as a drug pusher, and Clifford Manaois, 20, who was caught in a crossfire when a gunman pursued his target.
