On June 29 (In an exclusive interview with Philstar.com), President Duterte's barong designer Boni Adaza of Chardin fashion house shared the story behind the gifted
brogue-style boots to Mr. Digong that is sure to melt your heart.; boots that were crafted with love by Mr. Rolando de Guzman Santos, a Marikina shoemaker.

Rosemarie, Mr. Rolando's daughter, sent the shoes to the said fashion house after knowing that they would be tailoring one of the barongs for Mr. Duterte's inauguration according to Boni. Adaza even narrated “Meron ngang nag-message sa akin. She's a daughter of a shoemaker from Marikina. She PMd me through Facebook. Sabi niya sir, kabayan yung tawag niya, she was telling kung puwede ba daw ipadala niya yung gawa na sapatos ng tatay niya for President Duterte,”.

The daughter posted shared the efforts of his father who's been in the Philippine footwear industry for 54 years on Facebook with the caption "Gagawin ko lahat ng mkakaya ko para matupad yung pangarap kong karangalan para sayo.. na isang araw maisusuot ng isang presidente ang sapatos na gnawa mo ng buong puso," .

Despite of having the shoes delivered on June 28, unfortunately, the president did not wear them as its color did not complement his black pants aside from it needing a stopper since they were slipping as per Richard Pulatche (another designer of Chardin).

Thankfully, the president proudly wore them on his meeting with Mr. John Kerry, United States Secretary of State. | DML
