Environment Secretary Gina Lopez on Saturday told Chinese mining operators that if they won’t comply with environmental safety standards, they would be sent home.

Lopez has already suspended five mining companies since she assumed office two weeks ago. The mining operations in Zambales are known to be exporting to the Chinese mainland.

“If they don’t get their act together, I’ll tell them to go home,” she told DZMM.

She also said that the people’s well-being is more important than the money that they make and that if they want their money, then they should go home.

Lopez also looked into the destruction of corals by the Chinese in the disputed sea area.

She said that the Chinese culture was “essentially very spiritual” but they are now more focused on making profit.

“They’ve become very materialistic. All the think of is money and they’re bullies, and it’s not good at all,” she added.

This week, a UN-backed court ruled that the Philippines has the right to exploit resources in the South China Sea waters but it was not acknowledged by China, as for them it is baseless. | ASCS - FNPH
