Inquirer was quick to release an article after Sara Duterte posted on Instagram a photo of her in a recording booth, with the caption “Recording my first solo album at Colang Recording Studio with my Phelps Dodge boss Ma'am Mercy. Please supoort my first single Walang Forever 🎤🎤 "

The news website shared her Instagram post and headlined it with “LOOK: Sara Duterte records first solo album”, to which Sara immediately responded and said it was a joke. According to City Information Office chief Jefry Tupas, the mayor may have been doing some recording for her product endorsements.

Inquirer, therefore, violated one of the most vital rules of journalism which is verification. They failed to do so before publishing the article.

In an attempt to rectify the situation, they simply added a question mark at the end of their headline. Readers in the comment section called them out for falling for something that was obviously a joke. | ASCS - FNPH
