Staying true to his populist Presidential style, President Rodrigo Duterte has issued a memo asking government officials to refrain from using “His Excellency” in addressing him in all official communications.
The memorandum was signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea. He said that “the President shall be addressed in all official communications, events or materials as President Rodrigo Roa Duterte only, and without the term His Excellency.”
The memo also stated that the term ‘Honorable’ be obliterated when referring to all members of the Cabinet. They shall be called Secretary only.
However, it is also stated that all government agencies and offices, at their discretion, is free t use the term Honorable when addressing their heads of offices in their internal communications and documents. | ASCS- FNPH
