Alleged cover-up in Robredo plane crash –CAAP
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has issued a report on an alleged cover-up on the plane crash that killed interior secretary Jesse Robredo and two pilots in Masbate Waters last August 2012.
CAAP special investigator Cesar Lucero told former President Aquino, in a letter last November 15, that the report submitted to Malacanang did not include the accounts of Coast Guard divers who retrieved the bodies of the fatalities and the broken parts of the Piper Seneca plane.
Lucero said that the Coast Guard divers reported that the body of the pilot, Capt. Jessup Bahinting, was still strapped to the right pilot seat. This means that he was not the pilot-in-command during the flight.
“There was no categorical pronouncement as to who was at the left or right seat of the cockpit, a very vital information needed in the investigation,” Lucero added.
The report didn’t also include the history of the Piper Seneca, its cost when it was bought from its country of origin, when it was brought to the Philippines, or if it passed the civil aviation flying standards.
According to Lucero, earlier documents about the plane showed that it has a defective right engine. He had also informed Aquino that graft charges have already been filed to some former and current CAAP officials and that the Office of the Ombudsman is already conducting its own probe into the complaint.
Lucero remains under suspension for his grave misconduct, when he told the media the Nepalese pilot was in command during the flight.
He also insisted that Aviatour planes, the company that manufactured the Seneca plane, had been involved in past fatal crashes. | ASCS - FNPH
