Updated as of August 12, 016 — It usually takes long years and evinced miracles for anyone to be beatified as a saint in the Catholic Church. But for the late Cory Aquino, all it took was sainthood “by approbation."
A Catholic priest close to the family of the departed President Cory Aquino to work for her canonization that she’s eligible to be sanctified, Philippine Star lifestyle editor Joanne Rae Ramirez wrote.
In her Philippine Star column, Ramirez said Fr. Catalino Arevalo sees no problem with starting the consecration process for Cory since she was a person with “extraordinary Christian virtues.”
Cory died of colon cancer in August 2009 and according to rules of the Catholic Church, canonization can only begin six years after a person’s death.
Arevalo said, “From what I know of Tita Cory, I see no difficulty whatsoever and I think that we should start thinking of the possibility of starting a process ourselves,”
Ramirez has supported for Aquino’s impeccable values, saying she had no worries suffering after she was inspired by the life of St. Francis after a visit to Assisi when her term as president ended.
“When she got back to the hotel, Corazon Aquino prayed, ‘Lord, I don’t think I’ll ask for more sufferings. But if more sufferings come my way, I will not complain,’” she said.
