The Philippine National Police, headed by chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa, will be taking their anti-illegal drugs campaign to upscale bars and nightclubs.

However, dela Rosa clarified that they are not about to wage war with the owners of these establishments but rather they only intend to ask for their cooperation. He said he would like to initiate dialogue with them for a peaceful approach.

These upscale bars and clubs are mostly located in Makati and in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. “It’s in those high-end bars where people take party drugs,” he said.

Dela Rosa aims for the dialogue to help the PNP obtain information, consensus, and commitment from the owners themselves to give their full cooperation in the intensified campaign against illegal drugs.

In an outdoor concert party last May in Pasay City, five people died after taking ‘designer drugs’. Other illegal drugs are purportedly available and are being marketed, such as fly-high, green apple, green amore, superman, Dr. death, and pink death. All are classified as amphetamines.

According to the police, those illegal drugs are mixed with Ecstasy, shabu, and Cialis—a sex enhancement drug.

Dela Rosa shared his optimism on the cooperation of the owners and managers of bars. “If they cooperate then why not? If they don’t cooperate, then we will be forced to do our job our own way—our own way, not their way,” he said.

As of August 9, 513 drug personalities and an average of 13 persons a day have been killed in the war against drugs. ASCS
